Grief Counseling and Support

Baptist offers free and comprehensive grief services, including counseling, camps and workshops at three different locations. Counselors specializing in grief are there to guide individuals of all ages and families throughout the often rocky road of managing grief and adjusting to a new normal.

Camp Good Grief

In 1999, Baptist was the first heath care system in the area to offer a bereavement camp for children, Camp Good Grief. Since then, the camp program has expanded to include Teen Camp Good Grief, and hundreds of children and teens have reaped the benefits of camp. The goal of Camp Good Grief is to provide a safe environment for children and teens to explore and express their feelings related to the death of a loved one and learn to thrive in a world without that special person.

By mixing play and recreation with grief sessions, campers are able to both process their grief and enjoy a camp experience much like any other child or teen. Therapists trained in grief counseling, community volunteers and "buddies", some of whom are former campers, are there to support the campers and help provide them with an optimal experience. Baptist welcomes volunteer and financial support, as all camps are free.

Services for Kids

Baptist’s grief counselors are specially trained in how to help children express their grief through age-appropriate activities, tailored grief counseling and camps designed to meet children where they are in the grief process. The grief counseling offered is free of charge, available at all three Grief Center locations and designed to meet children where they are developmentally and socially. Camp Good Grief, the first camp of its kind in the area, is held annually and provides a safe environment for children to explore their feelings related to the death of a loved one and learn to thrive in a world without that special person

Services for Teens

Teen Camp Grief, which began in 2001, is for those 13 to 17 who have experienced a significant loss in their lives. The weekend long camp connects teens to other teens who have experienced losses and is a mix of recreational activities and grief sessions. Free grief counseling is also available at our three Grief Center locations and is specifically designed to meet teens where they are developmentally and socially.

Services for Adults

Free grief counseling, including evening sessions, is available for adults in need. Adults are often expected to continue their daily routines while managing massive and often unpredictable waves of grief. Counselors specializing in grief are there to guide grieving individuals throughout the process, and there is no limit on the number of sessions.
